Barcelona

Barcelona is one of the best destinations for international students. Among its major advantages are the high quality of education, its multicultural atmosphere, and the enjoyable Spanish way of life. Want to learn more?

Barcelona: More than a touristic destination

Despite being the country's second city, Barcelona is the most popular destination for tourists in Spain. Its impressive architecture, great weather and vibrant scenery attract thousands of visitors all year round.

But the Catalan capital is not only for tourists. The city also offers you the chance to develop your career, become part of an international community and join hundreds of different events. Because of all these reasons, this Mediterranean city is currently home to over 200,000 students.

Studying in Barcelona will give you the opportunity to grow personally and professionally in one of the most advanced, diverse and cosmopolitan cities in the world. And as another big plus, it’s remarkably budget-friendly! Compared to other big European destinations, prices are significantly more adequate for student’s wallets.

Universities in Barcelona

Barcelona has many universities and business schools that cover a wide range of bachelors and masters degrees taught entirely in English. Here is an overview:

  • Pompeu Fabra University: UPF’s education model is focused on preparing students to stand out in a global, changing and highly competitive job market. With three campuses located in some of the best areas in Barcelona, the university uses new learning methodologies and cross-disciplinary approaches to shape future cultured and insightful professionals.
  • Autonomous University of Barcelona: After 50 years from its foundation, the UAB is consolidated amongst the 200 within the main rankings as one of the best universities in the world. Located in Bellaterra, a bit less than one hour from Barcelona, its goal has always been the promotion of a model based on respect for the basic principles of autonomy, participation and social commitment.
  • University of Barcelona: Considered the principal centre of university investigation in Spain, UB has become a European benchmark for research activity. Its excellence not only relies on the number of programmes it offers, but also on the great quality of results these have achieved during the last years.
  • Polytechnic University of Catalonia: The UPC is a public institution specialised in engineering and other related disciplines, such as mathematics or architecture. Chosen by a great number of students for its high-ranked programmes, it’s known for being one of the most competitive in terms of job rates after graduation.
  • EU Business School: Established in 1973, this professionally accredited, high-ranking business school has campuses in Barcelona, Geneva and Munich. Among its professors it’s common to find highly qualified academics, entrepreneurs, consultants and other business leaders. By promoting small class sizes, they aim to create a greater interaction between students and the faculty, guaranteeing heightened academic achievement and providing more career support; which explains their 93% employment rate within 6 months after graduation.
  • TBS Education: A triple-crown business school with a focus on emerging sectors, the institution has developed two clusters: the first dedicated to Artificial Intelligence and data analysis, and the second to aerospace mobility. With campuses in Toulouse, Paris, Barcelona, and Casablanca, TBS also partners with over 200 universities worldwide, offering several dual bachelors, masters and international exchanges.

Job market for graduates

During the last years, a growing number of entrepreneurs and innovators have chosen Barcelona to establish their businesses; which has attracted outstanding tech talent and turned it into the creation of more than 1,300 startups.

Speaking Spanish might have an important weight while searching for a job after graduation. However, everyday more international companies are opening offices in the city, so the job market is becoming more flexible regarding languages.

Getting there…

Barcelona can be easily reached by boat, plane or train.
El Prat is the second busiest airport in Europe and connects Barcelona with thousands of destinations worldwide. For shorter distances, trains are very convenient and occasionally inexpensive. As an example, you can reach Madrid or France in less than 3 hours. And lately, if you prefer taking a boat, there are many routes every week to all the main ports of the Mediterranean.

…and around

Barcelona’s main attractions are close enough to be discovered by foot or by bicycle. However, to get to further places you can always rely on its many trains and buses that connect daily the main districts of the capital.

With regular frequencies and affordable tickets, the city has one of the most functional public transportation systems in Spain. Because of this, don’t miss the opportunity to also visit other charming and neighbouring towns from Costa Brava, such as Tossa de Mar or Pals.
