Description:

At University College Venlo (UCV), you have the opportunity to focus on health, nutrition and business in an interdisciplinary manner. You design your own curriculum by choosing from a broad range of courses from the Social sciences (e.g. psychology, sociology, economics, health management, public health or law) and Life sciences (e.g. biology, chemistry and informatics and physiology). For example, you can study the topic Nutritional Pharmacotherapy (medicine 2.0) together with Social Psychology.

With the help of your personal academic advisor, you build a tailor-made bachelor's programme, perfectly adapted to the master’s programme or professional position you aim for.

Why this programme?

Does consumption of fatty fish really make you smarter? Can food be used as medicine? Why is it so difficult to change our behavior, despite our best intentions to live more healthy? What are and how can we develop sustainable supply chains?

At UCV, you can study such questions and many more related to Health, Nutrition and Business in an close-knit interdisciplinary matter in a lively academic community with students and staff from all over the world. The diversity of cultural backgrounds and perspectives enlivens the small-group discussions and enriches your academic experience.

What is Problem-Based Learning?

Courses at UCV are taught using Problem-Based Learning (PBL). PBL gives you an academic problem and challenges you to solve it. Using a combination of small-group work and individual research, you seek possible solutions to the problem and get feedback to help you refine your answers. You are in control of your own education, and the tutor is there to facilitate your learning. All teaching at UCV happens in small groups of approximately 12 students.

Advantages of Problem-Based Learning:

  • helps you retain information better
  • teaches you to think about problems independently
  • develops your interpersonal skills
  • encourages you to be an active participant in class
  • gives you space to develop your own ideas
  • ensures that you receive personal attention from tutors

Choosing your courses:

The freedom to create your curriculum is exciting and motivating. It can also be a challenge. At the start of your studies, you get an academic advisor, who will help you to make choices that fit your interests, talents and ambitions. Your advisor helps you with questions like:

  • What are my talents and interests and how can I translate these into a successful career?
  • Which courses will help me reach my goals?
  • Should I pursue other academic options, like an internship?
  • How should I prepare for a master’s programme? Or the labor market?
