The postgraduate master’s program in European Studies equips students with academic, practice-oriented and interdisciplinary knowledge of the economic, legal, political and socio-cultural development perspectives of European integration. Furthermore, it aims at analyzing specifics of information and knowledge management within the European Union.
Occupational profile and target group:
The master program is targeted at people who work or would like to work with national and multinational corporations, banks, the insurance industry, institutions in the field of social and culture management, media and communications, public administrations, European and international organizations, as well as in continuing education and training.
The program aims at expanding the participants’ individual potential for innovation, their subject-specific competences and their personal experience.
Participants acquire the following qualifications:
- profound knowledge of the European transformation and integration processes
- an understanding of underlying mechanisms of a knowledge society
- practical skills in the field of information acquisition and knowledge management
- competences in analyzing complex relationships
- the ability to work in multicultural teams
- a high level of (foreign) language proficiency

- Understanding Europe: Many of the relevant decisions concerning different areas of life of European societies are no longer taken at the national level, but rather at the EU level. Participants in the master program in European Studies acquire academic, practice-oriented and interdisciplinary knowledge regarding European integration, the working methods of the EU institutions and Europe's cultural and social self-conception, also from a global perspective. Thereby the participants gain an understanding of Europe from a variety of perspectives.
- Interdisciplinarity: Students will consider and analyze Europe and the process of European integration from an economic, legal, political, sociological and historical and cultural perspective. In addition, participants examine the interplay between law, politics, society, economy, culture and languages in the context of developments in Europe.
- Practice-oriented: Experts from academia and practice teach in the postgraduate program "European Studies". The contents are studied from a problem- and application-oriented perspective. As a participant, you also have the possibility to take part in a field trip to Brussels, the “heart of the EU”. This gives you the opportunity to visit different institutions on site and to meet other experts from practice. The curriculum also comprises a course about the career opportunities in the EU.
- Building networks: The limited number of participants in the program enables an intensive exchange in class. Participants can network with each other as well as with the lecturers thanks to the small group size. In addition, students also have the opportunity to engage in networking with graduates from previous years.
- Wide range of career opportunities: The interdisciplinary design of the postgraduate program also reflects the wide range of job opportunities. For instance: In European and international organizations, institutions in the field of social and culture management, national administrations, national and multinational corporations, banks, media, the insurance industry, as well as in education.
