Description:

Become a sustainable technology pioneer who develops and implements novel, sustainable energy technologies and transitions that are needed in tomorrow’s world.

With an ever-growing global population and the energy demands of industries and consumers rising higher than ever before in history, we are rapidly depleting earth’s non-renewable energy resources (oil, gas and coal), and moving to a problematic change of climate. This rising problem and the accompanying challenges we are facing worldwide have raised the demand for skilled engineers to successfully develop and implement sustainable energy technologies. Do you feel called upon to make a valuable contribution to the sustainable energy transition? If so, the Master’s in Sustainable Energy Technology at the University of Twente (UT) is the right choice for you.

In this two-year, English-taught Master’s, you will gain in-depth expertise within the field of energy technology, while supplementing it with the broader knowledge and skills needed to achieve real change in our societies’ energy systems. You will be able to use your understanding of technology and engineering as an enabler, leader and game-changer in the transition towards sustainable energy systems.

Career perspectives:

The demand for experts in the field of Sustainable Energy Technology is particularly high and urgent as the use of fossil fuels affects climate change tremendously and these resources will, moreover, slowly run out. That is why graduates of this Master’s find exciting jobs shortly after graduating.

Given the broad perspective you develop in this Master’s, you will have several career options in the energy or sustainability arena. Whether you want to focus on the research and development of a new type of technology, become an integrator and focus on the actual implementation of a sustainable energy system or start a career in consultancy, this Master’s offers excellent career opportunities. We have graduates working for a wide range of (international) employers such as Shell, Stork, VDL Energy Systems, but also innovative green companies, such as Veolia, Mecal, Energy-Watch, Pure Energie, Opra Turbines and Suzlon Blade Technology, to name just a few of the many options.

Making the energy transition possible:

Understanding the kind of energy technologies that will be needed in tomorrow’s world is one thing. But what does it take to get them rolled out, working and accepted in our communities, cities and societies? Whereas other study programmes may often emphasise the technological implications of the energy transition, this Master’s will help you oversee the bigger picture.

In addition to gaining in-depth knowledge of renewable energy resources and technologies – think of bio-energy, solar energy, wind energy and hydrogen as well as fuel cells and smart grids – you will also gain expertise in the wider framework of today’s energy markets, entrepreneurship, business models and management. This unique combination of socio-economic and technological aspects – at UT we call it High Tech Human Touch – will help you become an authority in the implementation of technology-driven change in energy markets anywhere in the world.

Crossing borders with an international, cross-disciplinary approach:

Climate change is a cross-border issue in many ways. First, it’s a global problem that can only be solved with international collaboration. Moreover, it is a multi-faceted problem, that can – and needs to – be approached from many different fields of study. In order to deal with environmental problems, you need to be able to overlook these borders and work together with experts from different disciplines and nationalities. Thanks to the multidisciplinary and international character of our university and this Master’s – nearly half of the students in this programme is from outside of the Netherlands – you will become an all-round, yet specialised expert in the field of sustainable energy technology.
