Why @KTU?
Mechanical engineering is possibly the oldest branch of engineering science. If not for mechanical engineers, the industrial revolution would not have taken place, and we would probably still be producing everything using our own two hands. Mechanical engineers creatively solve future engineering problems by developing new and improving existing technologies used in medical, healthcare, sports and leisure, transporting and other industries. It is an area of science on which the progress of global economic development and the future industrial prospects depend.
Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines and therefore provides some of the strongest interdisciplinary opportunities in the engineering profession. KTU’s Mechanical Engineering bachelor’s study programme covers the analysis of different materials and technologies used in industry, the fundamentals of machine design and product development. Its graduates will have competences and skills to develop equipment, components and systems of mechanical nature while using contemporary CAD/CAE systems. These studies have a twin programme option within the ECIU network.
In 2018, KTU BSc Mechanical Engineering study programme was awarded Investor’s Spotlight quality label, established by Investor’s Forum together with the agency Invest Lithuania. Investor’s Spotlight is awarded to those study programmes which best meet the expectations of the business and industry.
According to their interests, the students of BSc Mechanical Engineering study programme may choose among the following alternatives:
Expanding knowledge in the field of mechanical engineering
Development of competencies in practical engineering activities through one- or two-semester placements at engineering enterprises
International semester at partner European universities
What will you study?
Materials: strength, rigidity, stability
Equipment: design, functioning, dynamics, powers
Products: development, aesthetics, efficiency
Measurements: system, methods, principles
Funding opportunities
All international students automatically become candidates to receive the Scholarship for International Students, which is assigned for first-year Bachelor or Master students with strong academic records and motivation.
The residents of European Union countries and the global citizens of Lithuanian origin can apply for state-funded study places. This means that all the applicants, who fall into one of the aforementioned categories, will participate in the general admission’s competition for state-funded study places and get the chance to study free of charge, depending on their admission score.
Campus life
The main KTU Campus is within walking distance from the city centre. In the campus, university sports halls and courts, dormitories, shops and recreational areas are all nearby. KTU boasts the active student community, with 6 art societies and over 20 students’ organisations. Our students can choose from 100 weekly sports classes, and join one of 20 sports teams. All of this is free of charge.
Over 40 thousand students study in Kaunas, and of these, around 10% are international students. Lush parks, lively squares, cosy cafes and buzzing cultural life make Kaunas attractive not only as a travel destination but also as a place to live. In 2022, Kaunas will become a European Capital of Culture.
