Description:

The Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, Society and Culture offers a modern and interdisciplinary education in the arts and the role of cultural production in society. Graduates receive a globally recognized degree, accredited in the US and EU, and earn it in three years instead of four.

The Creative Writing concentration is closely aligned with several existing research areas within the School of Arts and Humanities, particularly those in literary studies, cultural studies, and interdisciplinary narrative research. The program equips graduates with the ability to adapt their writing and narrative expertise to both artistic and professional contexts, making them versatile contributors across creative industries.

This concentration is built for students who want to write, create, experiment, and publish — not just study texts. From the very start, students actively produce original work, participate in workshops, and receive continuous feedback from faculty and peers.

The program blends creative labs, writing studios, and genre-focused workshops with a flexible liberal arts structure. Learning happens through doing: drafting stories, revising poems, scripting scenes, pitching ideas, and collaborating on creative projects. Small class sizes and an interactive American-style teaching model ensure that every student’s voice is heard and developed.

Highlights:

  • Write original fiction, poetry, scripts, and creative nonfiction from your first semester
  • Learn through hands-on workshops and creative studios, not lectures alone
  • Receive continuous professional feedback from faculty and peers
  • Develop a strong personal voice across multiple genres and formats
  • Experiment with screenwriting, drama, and digital storytelling
  • Build a professional creative portfolio by graduation
  • Learn in small classes where your work is seen, discussed, and developed
  • Draw inspiration from psychology, culture, and real-world social issues
  • Collaborate in a cross-disciplinary Creative Studio
  • Study and create in Prague’s vibrant cultural and literary scene

Program Structure:

The Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, Society and Culture is a 3-year study program. To graduate, students must accumulate 90 US credits (180 ECTS credits) by completing 30 courses, including an internship and a thesis. Students complete their degree with a final exam and thesis defense.

Below, you can find a list of courses and modules for the B.A. in Humanities, Society and Culture: Creative wiring and storytelling.

Beyond the classroom, you can also join student clubs like Model UN and Film Club, discuss current political issues with professors and local experts at an event like ‘Professors in the Pub’ or stop by one of our movie nights or poetry readings in the Library, featuring professors and internationally published authors.

AAU’s Career Center also connects students with numerous professional internships in the Czech Republic and abroad every year.

Students will:

  • Write short stories, poems, scripts, and creative nonfiction
  • Take part in workshop critiques and peer feedback sessions
  • Experiment with screenwriting, drama, and digital storytelling
  • Develop ideas in the Creative Studio, a cross-disciplinary creative lab
  • Revise work intensively, learning how professional writers shape drafts into publishable pieces
  • Engage with guest writers, readings, and creative events in Prague’s cultural scene
  • By graduation, students leave with finished creative projects, confidence in their voice, and real experience working like professional writers.

Career Prospects:

Graduates of the Creative Writing and Storytelling concentration at Anglo-American University have diverse employment opportunities in both creative and professional fields where strong writing, storytelling, and communication skills are valued. Many find positions as authors, content writers, copywriters, editors, and journalists in publishing houses, media organizations, and digital content platforms. Others work in marketing, advertising, and public relation where narrative development, brand storytelling, and audience engagement are critical.

Possible career paths include:

  • Creative writer (fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction)
  • Content writer or copywriter
  • Editor or editorial assistant
  • Journalist or feature writer
  • Communications or media specialist
  • Digital storyteller or social media content creator
  • Publishing assistant or literary agency assistant
