Interested in a career in spatial data science and becoming a geospatial professional?
Geo-information and spatial data science are diverse fields that can lead to many different career paths. ITC educates students to meet the growing demand for highly valuable skills in the private and public sectors. We will provide you with the advanced knowledge and critical skills needed to lead in the field.
Geospatial information and technologies and spatial data science are required across all sectors and industries today. From traditional map-making to creating modern data-driven solutions to real-world problems, this field offers an incredible variety of possible applications. Formerly, geo-information and GIS techniques were mainly used by governments, ministries, research institutes, provinces and municipalities. In recent years, however, they have spread throughout society, gaining a place in almost every organization using spatial information − from public service corporations and telecommunications companies to water authorities and retailers.
Experts who can effectively manage the information and opportunities provided by these new developments are in high demand – skilled professionals with a drive to use the latest technologies for making the world a better place.
During the Master’s Geo-information Science and Earth Observation, you will develop and enhance your technical competencies but also develop soft skills that include academic and professional competencies so that you can excel and be a leader in this field.
Not only will you learn skills relevant for GIS and the Earth observation sciences but also the data sciences so that you can collect, transform and integrate data and use these for developing, innovative and sustainable solutions useful for tackling real-world problems and improving our understanding of the world we live in. In other words, you will gain the relevant skills that will enable you to translate technical knowledge into policies and actions and make information actionable and informative.
As a Master’s student of Geo-information Science and Earth Observation at ITC, you will focus on a specific field of interest, with multiple specialisations to choose from, including a free specialisation.
Each specialisation contains a number of core courses that reflect its central concerns, and a Master’s thesis project that reflects the specialisation’s inherent nature. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a wider selection of (elective) courses.
