Description:

The Master of Chemistry focuses on research and development.

The proximity of the large chemical industry and the Port of Antwerp creates perfect circumstances to organise an internationally oriented Master programme. Professors and guest speakers from industry communicate knowledge and experience from their own daily practice in business and research. This will give you direct insight in how chemistry is interwoven with different economic sectors in our society and what your role in this can be.

In addition you will have the opportunity to do an internship to strengthen the connection between your academic education and your future professional life.

Through the wide range of elective courses you can focus your educational programme on one of the subdisciplines of Chemistry. Your Master thesis enhances your analytical and processing skills through exposure to high-level research environments.

Highlights of this Master programme:

  • You compose your programme based on your interests.

  • Courses take place in small groups.

  • Taught by specialists from industry.

  • A combination of excellent education and high-level research.

Your programme:

The Master's degree in Chemistry at UAntwerp offers a solid and qualitative programme in the basics of chemistry and a combination of fundamental chemistry and more business-oriented and applied components.

In this small-scale programme most teachers know all students by name. The many guest lecturers from business are a great asset for the programme. Students can take an international research internship (30sp) or a company internship (15sp) in the Master's programme. Here they are taken out of their comfort zone: they learn a lot and grow as a person.

The peer review team challenges the education committee to think even further and with a broader view on what the labor market and society expect of graduate chemists in the future, such as knowledge of life cycle assessment and sustainability, but also creativity, critical thinking, flexibility, entrepreneurial spirit, computational thinking, leadership and being able to collaborate with other disciplines. The programme will further strengthen itself in this area in the near future.
