Description:

This selective master provides five top training tracks in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience for students aiming to become high-level researchers in academia, or envisioning a career in industrial, governmental, clinical, or other work environments.

It is a dynamic and growing programme, characterised by its friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere and its very international character – traits that are shared with Maastricht University as a whole. It offers top-rated education by excellent teachers who are also internationally recognised research experts in the topics they teach.

Distinguishing aspects of the programme are its small-scale, group-based education, allowing for close interaction with both the teaching staff and other highly motivated students, and its attractive mix of theoretical and practical training.

Five specialisations:

  • Cognitive Neuroscience combines in-depth knowledge on human brain function, perception and cognition with an extensive and hands-on training for using advanced brain imaging (fMRI, fNIRS, DWI, EEG) and brain stimulation (TMS, tDCS) techniques.
  • Drug Development and Neurohealth provides theoretical background and practical experience in pharmaceutical drug research and development, medicinal nutrition and personalised healthcare. The central theme is the pipeline leading from design of the molecule to its applications in healthcare settings.
  • Fundamental Neuroscience combines theoretical background with practical experience in research at the interface of biology and psychology. The fundamental molecular mechanisms of psychological processes, as well as neurological and psychiatric disorders are investigated.
  • Neuropsychology focuses on normal and disturbed behaviour in relation to brain structure and function. Much of the emphasis is on congenital, acquired or degenerative brain disfunction and related neuropsychiatric disorders.
  • Clinical Psychology provides theoretical background and clinical skills needed for research in mental health. Emphasising interaction among biological, psychological and social pathways leading to disorder, this specialisation focuses on research questions that can inform prevention and intervention strategies.
