Description:

Making the impossible possible. Master the art of illusion and take your VFX skills to the highest level.

Our Visual Effects Production (Compositing) Master´s degree has two pathways: Compositing and 3D, so you can choose the area of VFX that you would like to build a career in. You’ll initially follow a common path with the first two modules, then take either the Compositing or 3D route for the next two modules, before coming back together for the final project modules.

Visual Effects Artists create computer generated imagery (CGI) and effects, including 3D visuals, that would otherwise be too dangerous, expensive or impossible to film. VFX is not going anywhere; almost every image we see has it in some form – for example, if the image was not captured in its totality in one pass with the camera and consists of two or more live action elements, or it has been either wholly or partly generated on the computer.

Compositing (2D VFX) is an essential part of the VFX pipeline in films, TV and commercials. It entails seamless and photorealistic combining of various live action elements, and sometimes CG elements, that may have been filmed in different locations and in different lighting conditions. The Compositor’s job is to combine them in such a way that they seem like they have been filmed in one pass by a camera.

This masters degree will take you from zero-to-hero, introducing you to both fundamental and advanced techniques of VFX using industry-standard software, as well as introducing you to the latest AI tools and Nuke's integration with Unreal Engine.

Why choose this course:

  • Designed with industry - our advisory board of experts from the likes of DNEG and MPC help develop and keep this degree relevant.
  • Learn from expert tutors, Klaudija Cermak, who has over 30 years of industry experience on high-end commercials, broadcast programmes and feature films and Daniel Shutt, who has over 20 years experience in a wide variety of 3D fields, from feature film effects and games graphics, to TV commercials and architectural rendering.
  • Get to grips with the software used in industry, including Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Unreal Engine and Silhouette.
  • Receive feedback from industry professionals - an opportunity to level-up your work and build connections, ready to embark on your creative career. Our VFX students have previously had feedback from Union VFX, Industrial Light & Magic, Outpost VFX, Framestore, Goodbye Kansas, DNEG, Rise, BlueBolt and Black Kite.
  • Work on industry-standard briefs and experience real-life scenarios, just like in a professional studio.
  • Recognised degree - graduate with a postgraduate MA qualification awarded by Coventry University which will boost your employability around the world. The degree title on your certificate will either be MA Visual Effects Production (Compositing) or MA Visual Effects Production (3D), depending on which stream you choose.
  • Aftercare package - we'll help you polish your showreel and find the right job, with access to our studios and showreel clinics for 12 months.
