This program grants a degree in advanced medieval studies as a whole. It serves those who come with a developed research agenda and sufficient background knowledge. Students take courses in several fields and write an MA thesis demonstrating their ability to conduct independent research and use primary source(s) competently.

Entry Requirements for the Master’s Programs:
Applicants must have a minimum of four years of study in history, art history, archaeology, philosophy, philology or one of the relevant source languages. In addition to meeting the General CEU Admissions Requirements, applicants are also required to submit a 500-word description of their proposed research topic, specifying the primary sources and related secondary literature. Applicants may also be required to take a source language examination.

In exceptional cases, applicants with a three-year bachelor’s degree may be allowed admission into one-year master’s programs. The applicants should be aware that they may not be able to pursue a doctoral degree in the European Higher Education Area if they have accumulated less than 300 ECTS credits in their prior university studies. Applicants wishing to pursue an academic career should choose their master’s program accordingly (two-year master’s in case they completed a three-year bachelor’s degree, and one-year master’s in case they completed a four-year bachelor’s degree).
