Description:

The B.A. in Humanities, Society and Culture: Anglo-American Studies introduces and explores the history, literature, and philosophical contributions of Britain, Ireland, and North America.

The program looks at the relationships between these influential geo-political and cultural spheres. Creative contributions, historical developments, and current issues are studied from a variety of perspectives. In this program, students will gain the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to address complex issues in changing international contexts.

Program Structure:

The Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, Society and Culture is a 3-year study program. To graduate, students must accumulate 90 US credits (180 ECTS credits) by completing 30 courses.

Beyond the classroom, you can also join student clubs like Model UN and Film Club, discuss current political issues with professors and local experts at an event like ‘Professors in the Pub’ or stop by one of our movie nights or poetry readings in the Library featuring professors and internationally published authors.

AAU’s Career Center also connects students with numerous professional internships in the Czech Republic and abroad every year.

Learning Outcomes:

Graduates of the B.A. in Humanities, Society and Culture: Anglo-American Studies can expect to:

  • Demonstrate broad knowledge of ideas & issues across the fields of art, literature, film, philosophy, religion, history, politics & sociology, anthropology, and psychology; demonstrate a broad knowledge of the theories, methods, and concepts in these areas
  • Use appropriate quantitative and qualitative research methods, concepts and theories
  • Address and solve moderately complex theoretical and practical issues and problems in changing contexts
  • Effectively communicate issues, problems, or dilemmas and their solutions
  • Take effective and responsible action both individually and within a team
  • Take into consideration diverse and changing socio-cultural contexts

Qualification Awarded:

The Bachelor’s degree awarded is concurrently recognized as a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in the United States, per AAU’s accreditation by the WASC Senior College and University Commission, and as a Bakalář (Bc.) in the Czech Republic, per AAU’s accreditation by the National Accreditation Bureau for Higher Education (NABHE). Graduates may select whether to use the U.S. post-nominal or the Czech pre-nominal title.

This concentration is accredited by the Academic Council of Anglo-American University. Its completion will be indicated on the transcript and diploma supplement.
