The University of Stavanger offers a conducting degree as part of our Master in music performance program. The main focus is on conducting wind band and brass band, but the students will also conduct and work with orchestral repertoire. Proficiency in English language is a prerequisite for non-Nordic applicants. Auditions take place in Stavanger in week 10 each year (mid March).
At-home test: All applicants must submit a full score and a complete set of parts in PDF format (sent by e-mail) to UiS at the latest one week before the audition. The piece must be the applicants’ own instrumentation for wind band of an assigned (short) piano piece. The piano piece and a detailed instrument list will be sent to the applicants approx. in week 5 (early February).
Performance audition on your own instrument. The applicant can choose the repertoire. Approx. 10 mins. UiS provides piano accompaniment. The piano parts should be submitted to UiS with the application.
Interview where we may ask the applicant to play selections of the audition repertoire/scores on the piano, we may also discuss interpretational topics, analysis and also discuss the motivation and goals of the applicant.
