Description:

Hispanic Studies and Management enables you to learn the language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world, while gaining the skills and knowledge essential for managing key areas of business.

Outside Spain, Spanish is the official language of all countries in South and Central America except Brazil, and is widely spoken in many parts of North America. Combining Hispanic Studies and Management enables you to gain a deeper understanding of international business, which is an ideal option for those considering an global career.

A working knowledge of the Spanish language, and of Hispanic cultures, will give you a head start in the business world. A number of our staff are native speakers, and our facilities include multimedia laboratories, which offer a variety of interactive language learning programmes and dictionaries.

The Management programmes at Kent aim to develop a new kind of business professional for the 21st century, as alive to their social responsibilities to the community as to the needs of their investors, shareholders and employers.

The modules in Management develop your leadership skills in relation to decision making, problem solving, team working, negotiation and employee performance management. You gain the skills and knowledge essential for managing key areas of organisations, including accounting, human resources, quantitative methods, marketing, strategy and operations. You also develop an understanding of the role and interrelationship between strategic management, human resource management and operations management.

You also have the opportunity to take part in a mentoring scheme for secondary school pupils. By helping them to increase their ability to speak, read and write fluently in a foreign language, you will gain valuable work experience for future careers in education or leadership roles in any field.

You are required to spend a year working or studying abroad between your second and final year of study. In previous years, students have studied at our partner institutions in a country appropriate to their programme of study. You’ll develop your language skills, grow in self-confidence, gain a new academic perspective, and enhance your employability.

This programme will help you develop cultural understanding, language skills, and a wide business knowledge, equipping you for a rewarding international career.

Dr William Rowlandson, Senior Lecturer in Latin American Studies, discusses the range of opportunities available within Hispanic Studies and his own interest in sustainability and the importance that the languages play in this important field.
