A mechanistic understanding of brain organisation and function is the first step in conquering brain diseases. Are you motivated to work towards this goal from a multi-disciplinary perspective? While molecular and cellular neurobiologists determine the machinery that is responsible for creating neural circuits, systems and network biologists shed light onto how the coordinated actions of neurons lead to cognition and behaviour.
This specialisation crosses the boundaries of multiple sub-fields of biology, life sciences, medicine and behavioural sciences. We develop novel biological and chemical methodologies to control molecules, cells, networks and behaviour, thereby establish a causal link between the different biological scales of brain organization and function.
