Bachelor of Business in Finance and Investment

What’s it all about?

Financial Services is one of the most vibrant sectors in the Irish economy. With over 35,000 people employed in the sector, there is an ongoing shortage of suitably skilled employees. This programme prepares the graduate for a variety of roles throughout the sector in funds, insurance, banking and accounting.

What you will study?

Over four years students will study the following core subjects: Financial Services, Maths, Insurance, Financial Reporting, Information Technology, Economics, Law, Management, Compliance, Management Accounting, Financial Markets, Personal Finance, Investment Funds, Selling Financial Products, Financial Modelling, Managing People, Risk Management, Investments, Corporate Financial Management. Students may also elect to study some of the following: Marketing, Languages, Politics, Organisational Behaviour, Financial Management, Taxation.

Students will also undertake a work placement in third year, or may study abroad for one semester in one of our European partner institutes.

Note the final list of modules is subject to a validation panel visit.

Work Placement:

Employers value candidates who have previous work experience and the Bachelor of Business in Finance & Investment offers the student a four month placement in the Financial Services industry. IT Sligo has a strong

reputation with employers and our students compare favourably with other placement candidates.

Exemptions:

The proposed programme will afford students the opportunity to achieve 2 exemptions from the Chartered Accountants Proficiency 1 (CAP 1) examinations of Chartered Accountants Ireland, as well as exemptions for

Insurance Institute of Ireland examinations.
