Department of Law and Politics

The Law Department offers supportively tutored, research-led undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, delivered at our Hendon, Mauritius and Dubai campuses. We also supervise a large number of PhD students, especially in European and international law, international politics and human rights.

Our research is professionally and politically influential. Through conferences, training courses (including for judges), consultancy, and litigation managed in the European Court of Human Rights, we engage continuously with the legal system, as well as with public bodies, companies and NGOs in law and international relations both in the UK and internationally.

The Department is highly international in character. But our academic team also works closely with the Middlesex Law Society (the organisation representing legal professionals across North and West London), and with local and Central London law firms, with whom we organise internships.

Clinical Legal Education

The Clinical Legal Education programme, currently an expanding area of investment for the Law Department, encompasses a wide range of initiatives that bring students into contact with the legal professions, the judiciary and voluntary organisations providing legal services. In numerous ways, we support students by providing and facilitating opportunities for them to acquire the skills and experience that will lead to employment in the legal sector and generally.
