Department of Natural Sciences

The Department of Natural Sciences in the Faculty of Science and Technology at Middlesex University delivers high quality teaching, research and consultancy across several disciplines including biomedical and healthcare sciences, biology, environmental health, environmental and public health, occupational health and safety and risk management.

The focus of the department is on the application of knowledge to practice, with that knowledge underpinned by a sound scientific philosophy and research basis.  Our work approaches health and well-being from a variety of perspectives:

  • The biomedical model, approaching health from the traditional hospital and medical perspective
  • Environmental health and public health whose professionals work at a community level to promote good health practices
  • Biology and environmental science which allow us to better understand the world we live in and how we interact with it.

MDX academics support BBC series War on Plastic

BBC presenter and environmentalist Anita Rani spent a day in a Middlesex science lab with MDX staff, Leonardo Munoz and Alejandra Baez, analysing wet wipe samples, to assess their plastic content. The experiments' results now feature on the BBC series War on Plastic which started on 10 June.
