Overview

The architecture blends science and art, and it is present in all the spaces around us – our home, neighbourhood, cities we live in. The significance of architecture is more than evident.
The main skill of an architect is the ability to create safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing buildings or dwellings. At KTU, the graduates learn that a building is not only a place where people live and work but is also an important part of our surroundings that makes an impact on how we live.

Our students learn using contemporary technology and knowledge of historical, aesthetic, socio-cultural and ecological contexts. KTU graduates become the architects that can create buildings for any purpose, shape the landscape, analyse and design the spaces for the future.
Learning from internationally renowned scholars and practitioners you will analyse and design projects both from user and architects’ perspectives using structural, social, aesthetical, ecological, and economic research. In your studies, you will learn how to visualise the innovative architectural design and urban planning solutions, to generate creative ideas and implement them.
Our graduates can create individual projects and work closely within a team, to coordinate and lead projects, as well as work according to BIM methodology together with other construction participants.

• You will be taught by the experts awarded with the highest national prizes
• Possibilities of joining internationally renowned research groups
• Talented students can join an advanced study path of KTU GIFTed Community
This extended undergraduate programme leads to the Master’s degree (5 years programme).

Career opportunities

“I knew that I want to become an architect from very early age as my father is also an artist/architect and drawing took big part of my time. Before coming to Lithuania I was studying architecture in Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. Coming to technical university I was expecting more intense study of technical subjects. I ended up gaining great knowledge in urban planning. Studies in KTU also helped me to develop my ways of thinking and skills needed to continue working in the field of architecture and urban planning. I started doing my internship in JDWA – Johan de Wachter Architects office, while also working on my thesis. The office is practicing architecture and urban planning, while exploring collaborative design with future users, so I can easily adapt skills gained in KTU and learn new things every day.”Anna Kinturashvili, Johan de Wachter Architects office, Architect.

“I have represented thesis defence commission of Architecture Bachelor degree studies for five years, therefore I have a great opportunity to observe the level of students’ preparation. Each year this level increases with improvements of study programme. Quite a few graduates worked at our office. We were very satisfied with their knowledge, approach to profession and creativity. I am sure we will not be disappointed in the future.”Vilius Adomavičius, Manager of Architectural Bureau *“Vilnius ir Partneriai”.

“Today, the profession of architect requires a wide range of skills: spatial thinking, analytical skills, understanding of the principles and processes of urban development, technical knowledge, social, teamwork, presentation and many other competencies. KTU Architecture’s integrated study program combines technology, architectural theory, design and other disciplines, through which students’ creativity and critical thinking are constantly stimulated, and thus provide the skills necessary for the profession of architect. The studies aim at a deep understanding of social, economic, spatial, and technical issues, which allows for the systematic analysis of complex problems and their clear presentation to colleagues and the public. Students work on a variety of architectural design and urban planning projects, individually or in groups, and thus learn about the interplay between technology, culture and living environment, and different disciplines. All projects are based on research by design principles. This means that in order to test the functioning of the project object, its prototyping, adaptation and modification are encouraged. The work takes place in thematic design studios working in groups and solving complex problems of the real environment of our cities. It enables the acquisition of skills and competencies vital to the professional life of the 21st century architect.”Martynas Marozas, Head of MMAP.
