Omer (23) from Sudan went to study at Vilnius College of Technologies and Design (VTDK) in Vilnius, Lithuania. He explains the value of a practice-oriented approach in teaching when comparing his study-abroad experience to his time as a student in Africa and Asia.
Why did you choose to study in Lithuania?
To answer why I chose Lithuania I should mention that I was studying in Malaysia, Egypt, and Sudan before, so I have some experience when it comes to comparing my study experiences in these countries and Lithuania.
I was always looking for the practical implementations in friendly environment, where the people are easy to communicate with, and where it will be easy to learn something new and different in terms of culture, politics, and religions. There is nothing more wonderful than this. In addition to that I was looking for a high quality education in affordable tuition fees and I found all I was looking for and much more here in Lithuania.
What do you think about your studies in Lithuania?
I was looking for a university in which there would be a mix of the theoretical studies and more practical approach. I found just that at Vilnius College of Technologies and Design. Here we have more personal space to improvise. Our university as well as other universities have big practical clubs (hack lab) in which we can show our talents in the field of innovations. That's why the education here is high quality and more connected to labor market.
What would you tell others who are considering coming for studies in Lithuania?
Don't hesitate to come and study in Lithuania! It is a great experience. You will definitely enjoy not only the studies but the extra-curricular subjects and all sorts of entertainment as well.
