PhD student Mario Alguacil Jiménez from the University of Valencia, Spain, is on a scientific internship at Lithuanian Sports University (LSU) in Kaunas, Lithuania. The young researcher is writing a doctoral thesis in social sciences, titled: "Brand Perception and Its Influence on the Outcomes of a Public Sports Service". The student’s internship supervisor is Associate Professor Dr. Inga Staškevičiūtė-Butienė (Department of Sport Management, Economics and Sociology, LSU).
Mario came to LSU in August 2016 and is going back to Spain at the beginning of December. He chose LSU for his internship because he wanted to gain international experience. Also, he knew that LSU scientists conduct research related to his doctoral thesis topic. Moreover, Mario’s scientific supervisor from the University of Valencia visited LSU a few years ago and encouraged Mario to choose LSU as it had made a really good impression on him.
Mario Alguacil Jiménez spends most of his time in the library searching for information, analysing different databases, writing reports for scientific conferences and articles for various journals. During the internship, Mario had an opportunity to access the research conducted by LSU researchers working in the area of management of economics and sports industry. LSU researchers and teaching staff members are always ready to help or consult the student.
"I feel really good at the university, because I am surrounded by wonderful people, who are willing to help anytime. I became friends with the students living in the dormitory and met as many as four students from Spain. Although I spend most of the time studying, sometimes we go out to enjoy a game of bowling or skating", says Mario.
At the age of six, Mario became interested in football and has been playing it ever since. "I knew that Kaunas is a city of sport and that basketball is the second religion. I have to confess that I watched a basketball match for the first time in my life right here, in Žalgirio Arena. It was a great experience", says the student.
Mario’s doctoral studies finish at the beginning of 2017, so, there are only a few months left. The student would like to be a lecturer and a researcher in the future and continue his research in sports industry.
