This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to manage workplace safety and health in order to protect workers from injuries and illnesses caused by work. On our course you will gain the technical knowledge and skills to advise employers on preventing workplace fatalities and illnesses among their workforce. You will learn how to promote health and wellbeing within the workplace so that workers can remain healthier for longer and be more productive at work. You will gain technical experience in monitoring workplace contaminants and understand the law pertaining to workplace safety and health.
The course engages students in a dynamic and innovative way from first year through to fourth year. Students learn how to effectively work with people by working within groups and teams to solve real workplace safety and health issues. The course gives a blend of theoretical and practical learning from lectures, laboratory based monitoring, site visits, case studies, enquiry based learning and work placement.

In May of their third year students will go on work experience before returning in October for the fourth year of the course. Spending up to five months in an organisation the student will work in the role of a health and safety advisor or safety officer under supervision. The placement is a mandatory element of the course and is invaluable in preparing the student for the fourth year of the course and for a career in Occupational Safety and Health.
