Description:

Bachelor of Business in Applied Sport with Business

If you have an interest in sport, recreation, outdoor pursuits, or in coaching and instruction, this is an ideal course for you.

This course will allow you to study all aspects of sport, leisure and recreation allied with advanced business, management and communication skills. The course features a high level of practical activity ranging from all swimming-based activities, surfing, fitness instruction and sports coaching. You will have the chance to attain valuable national and international qualifications including European-recognised gym instruction and personal training qualifications, lifeguarding, swim instructor and several coaching awards.

Key Skills:

We have incorporated a number of key skills in the course to equip you for a career in the sport and recreation industry:

  • You will gain practical experience in teaching, skills development, team and personal coaching across a broad range of indoor and outdoor leisure and sporting activities
  • You will develop competencies in core business areas including management, marketing, finance, law and computer applications
  • You will develop your people-related skills including communication, interpersonal, team-working and customer service skills
  • You will understand and learn how to apply conceptual and organisational skills including collecting and organising information, problem solving, planning and organising
  • You will be tutored on gym instruction
  • You will gain valuable experience in surfing/swimming

There is a work placement during the second semester of year three.

  • Level One and Two IHF Community Walking Leader. 
  • Level One Athletics Ireland Coaching.
  • EQF Level 3 Fitness Instructor. 
  • EQF Level 4 Personal Trainer. 
  • Irish Water Safety Assistant Swim teacher award. 
  • Royal Lifesaving Society Emergency Response Swimming Pools award. 
  • Royal Lifesaving Society National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (with Automated External Defibrillation). 
  • Irish Water Safety Level 2 Swim teacher award. 
  • GAA - Foundation or level 1 award. 
  • IRFU - Lep Rugby award. 
  • Basketball Ireland - Introductory Basketball Award.
