Description:

Studying the crisis management of international organisations

Do you have an international outlook, a willingness to serve the public good and an eagerness and capacity to learn? Are you open to the richness of diverse cultures? Then this might be your programme of choice.

University of Jena’s new English-language Master’s programme International Organisations and Crisis Management (IOCM) provides excellent students with the unique opportunity to combine three topical areas of study.

  1. International organisations: International organisations are active in almost all policy fields. They pervade world politics and are highly relevant in an ever more interconnected world. You will learn about the goals, tasks, structures, cultures and norms of international governmental and non-governmental organisations.
  2. International crises: Modern global crisis management comprises the settlement of violent conflicts as well as the governance of issues such as pandemics, the global climate emergency, and financial crises. You will become familiar with these different types of crises, their specific challenges, and the potentials and limits of international crisis management.
  3. Crisis management of international organisations: More often than not, international organisations are involved in the governance of international crises. You will study whether and how international organisations (together with states and other actors) are able to tackle these crises and what challenges of effectiveness and legitimacy may arise in the process.

In addition, the IOCM programme allows students to enrich their curriculum with a wide range of electives and interdisciplinary course offers.
